Hey everybody, it’s Dr. Nicole with Healing Hands. In your lifetime have you ever been told that you have a condition called scoliosis and that there’s nothing that you can do for it?
What is Scoliosis?
Well, scoliosis is a very common condition of the spine, about 3% of the population has it. What a scoliosis is is when the spine is in a curved position and causes a tremendous amount of stress and pressure on the nervous system. Although scoliosis is very common, it is not very healthy, and in less than 10% of the cases is surgery needed. That means in 90% of the cases, surgery is not needed. However, when people have a scoliosis, it can be a true pain in the neck, no pun intended. But in all seriousness, scoliosis can be a real pain, it can cause lots of aches and pains in the neck, between the shoulder blades and then low back, it can cause dysfunction, and decrease sensory information in the hands, legs and feet. And because it puts a tremendous amount of pressure and stress on the entire nervous system, it slows energy down from the brain to the entire body creating dysfunction in the body. So here at healing hands Manahawkin we have a system of care that allows us to actually correct scoliosis that is completely different and unique from most other healthcare systems, including orthopedics and orthopedic surgeons.
How We Correct Scoliosis
There are three ways that we eliminate scoliosis. The first is we use a technique called neuromuscular re education. neuromuscular re education is where we re educate the muscles along the spine to start holding the spine in its normal, natural neutral position, so that the muscles don’t keep pulling the spine back to back into its current position. The second way is through gentle and safe chiropractic adjustments. So we use a system of care when we’re adjusting that allows us to gently move regions of the spine back into its normal alignment, reducing a massive amount of stress, pressure and tension off of the spinal cord and the delicate nerves as they exit the spine. And the third way is through the use of orthotics. This here is called a Scoliroll. So this is a very specific orthotic specifically designed to help people with scoliosis. This helps us to remould the muscles and the ligaments around the spine so that the ligaments don’t keep pulling the spine back out of alignment and into the curve. So these, these guys kind of work like an orthotic in your shoe, like when podiatrist recommend an orthotic to put the curve back into your arch. We use these orthotics to actually take the curve out of the spine. And through this system of care over time. We can actually rid most of the scoliosis from an unhealthy abnormal position back into a strong, straight, healthy, well aligned spine. The same way that orthodontists are able to correct teeth with braces. We use this system of care in order to help people with scoliosis.
