Why We Take X-rays to Diagnose Vertigo | Chiropractor for Vertigo in Manahawkin, NJ

Hey guys, Dr. Nicole here with Healing Hands of Manahawkin. So have any of you ever had the great pleasure of experiencing vertigo? And yes, I’m being sarcastic. Vertigo is no fun. So we all know what Vertigo is, right? It’s having dizziness. And we also all know that there are many different causes to having vertigo. But what you might not know is that one pause that goes overlooked very often is a condition of the spine called vertebral subluxation.

Vertebral Subluxation and Vertigo

Vertebral subluxation is when one or more of your spinal vertebrae shift out of alignment. And if a person has a vertebral subluxation it up here in the upper part of their neck, it could affect their nervous system in that area. subluxation causes stress and strain to that part of the nervous system. And when the nervous system especially at the top here of the spine, when the nervous system is under stress or fit strained, the brain loses its ability to communicate well with the body. There can be all kinds of different symptomatology that happens as a result of vertebral sublists subluxation. But one of the types of symptoms that people get in vertigo. Now, properly, diagnosing Vertigo is not always easy. But one of the things in chiropractic, that’s very important for the proper diagnosis of not only where the root cause of vertigo, but really the proper diagnosis. For this condition of the spine that we call vertebral subluxation. One of the things that is absolutely essential is taking x-ray.

X-rays Help Us Determine The Root Cause of Your Symptoms

And I want to share a story with you a friend of mine had a patient who came in and she had vertigo, and he took some X-rays of her spine and on the initial x-rays this fine we can we can clearly see the subluxation on the X-ray. So we can clearly see that the misalignment or subluxation in this patient’s spine was in the upper neck right up in here. And a subluxation like that would definitely be linked to things like this tennis, visual disturbances, migraine headaches, that we can do immune system, Insomnia, Sleep Apnea, things like that anything that’s brainstem related could be affected by that type of subluxation. So my friend who’s a chiropractor started adjusting this patient, and her vertigo actually got worse. And if any of you have has experienced vertigo, you know that that is not fun, right? It’s not dangerous, but it’s, it’s just it could be debilitating, right. So what we did was we took another set of x-rays, they’re called flexion, extension X-rays. And when we took this set of x-rays, we were able to see something on this a different set of x-rays that we weren’t able to see on the initial x-ray.

The Importance of X-rays for Proper Chiropractic Care

So I’m going to share my screen with you, I’m going to try to show you what we found on this X-ray. Okay, and what you can see here is you can see that on this side, the patient is in a flexed position. That means that when we took the X-ray from the side, the chin was tucked in and the head was fully forward. And from that view, nothing spine looked subluxated. But the anatomy looked normal. However, when we did the extension, which is this one right here, this, this x-ray right over here on the right hand side, what we saw was something different. We saw that there was a bony anomaly in this woman’s spine, at the very, very top of her neck right here. Any of you who are experienced in reading X-rays, what you’ll see is that when this woman put her neck in extension, this whole part of her vertebrae slipped forward in relationship to the bottom portion of that vertebrae. Well, what the heck is that? Well, what we call that is an upper cervical for an upper neck instability. And what that means is that somewhere along the line, this patient had some type of sudden or trauma or fall or car accident that caused the muscles and the ligaments in this part of the spine to loosen weakened and probably even tear, right? So certain adjustments would not be appropriate for this type of patient. So what’s the moral of the story?

Make Sure Your Chiropractor Takes X-rays Before Adjusting You

The moral of the story is that if you are considering chiropractic care, one of the very first things that you should consider when choosing a chiropractor is finding out if that chiropractor takes x-rays, there is no better way to not only be safe in chiropractic, but there’s no better way to properly take care of patients than being able to see exactly what’s causing the root cause or the underlying cause of people’s conditions. So hopefully, that helped. And enlighten you a little bit about vertigo. And yes, chiropractors to answer your last and final question is, if you do have a subluxation in your neck, that is causing is the root cause of the vertigo, then yes, of course, by realign by taking the spine and realigning the spine, and removing stress off of that part of the nervous system, the body will begin to heal properly. And of course, symptomatology like dizziness or sleep apnea or insomnia, or whatever is controlled by that region of the spine will get better, it will heal, it will improve and you’ll be back to life in no time.
